B + E CAR AND TRAILER TRAINING
HORSEBOX TOWING
All training is based on two people training together.
If you passed your car test after 1 January 1997, you are restricted to category B (car up to 3500kgs) only. If you want to drive vehicles in C1 (small lorries between 3.5 tonne and 7.5 tonne) or D1 (minibuses with between 9 and 16 passenger seats), you will have to take the additional test. You will also have to take the relevant theory (including hazard perception test) and have a medical.
CAR/VAN (UP TO 3.5T) PLUS TRAILER - CATEGORY B+E
Provisional Category B+E Driving Licence: The first step is to make sure you have a full category B driving licence with a provisional category B+E entitlement on your counterpart driving licence.
Theory Test: There is no theory test for licence category B+E.
As a guide, on average most newly qualified category B drivers require from four to five days B+E training in order to reach test standard. If you have additional experience such as reversing trailers on a farm or building site the driving course duration may be reduced to just three days.
Practical Driver Training & Test:
The practical training course will cover all aspects required by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) Syllabus. Items covered will include vehicle safety check questions, driving on urban & rural roads, dual carriageways & motorways, off-road reversing and braking exercises.
